ABOUT US
In 2004, the F.A.O. estimated that over 852 million people in the world were hungry. And one third of the world’s poor are estimated to reside in India. According to statistics by the World Food Programme, 350 million people in India are considered food-insecure, consuming less than 80 percent of minimum energy requirements. Nearly nine out of 10 pregnant women aged between 15 and 49 years suffer from malnutrition and anaemia. Anaemia in pregnant women causes 20 percent of infant mortality. More than half of the children under five are moderately or severely malnourished, or suffer from stunting.

The West Bengal Chapter of MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation was formed in 2004 by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui (the modern founder of Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga). Our objectives are to:

  • To promote physical health and well being through proper nutrition and regular meals to the poor, destitute, homeless and underprivileged
  • To coordinate with other charitable organizations for the purpose of providing food for the hungry
  • To establish, maintain and manage feeding centres
  • To conduct training programmes relating to nutrition and hygiene
  • To provide self-sufficiency training programmes for the poor
  • Other allied activities to uplift underprivileged sections of our society
  • We also provide medical aid, hospital expenses and other health related expenses to the marginalized sectors of society.

Besides these regular activities, during times of disasters, money is immediately assigned by the organization to help people. Relief by the MCKS Food for Hungry Foundations include work carried out post earthquakes, floods and more recently, the tsunami. After the tsunami struck, food packets were distributed in Chennai the same evening. Subsequently, short-term relief work was carried out in the form of distributing food, dry rations, clothing, cooking utensils, etc.  Currently, long-term rehabilitation is still going on and several villages are being assisted to rebuild homes, fishing boats and fishing equipment.

The relief work carried out by the Foundation is purely led by volunteers. Less than 1% of received donations are used for administrative purposes, with nearly all going directly to the various charitable and relief activities. We are a government registered 80G organization. The Foundation has six chapters across India.
