WORK AREAS
The MCKS Food for Hungry Foundation works in following core areas in order to achieve the core objective of building a better life for underprivileged in society.
Feeding Programmes
 |
This program is central to our activities and was the original motivation for establishing the Foundation. Under this program food packets are distributed to hungry and homeless people, saving lives and allowing the beneficiaries to stave off disease and malnutrition. |
Clothing Programmes
 |
So many women live their lives without even the basic necessity of clothing even to this day. Under this program rural women are provided with adequate clothing so that they can live a life of dignity and courage. |
Health Programmes
 |
We realise that feeding the hungry is a fundamental relief measure. However, its benefits would be futile unless it is backed by healthcare and medication for the poor and needy. To this end, we provide medicines and healthcare supplies to those in need. |
Livelihood Programmes
 |
We are focused on the rehabilitation of disadvantaged sections of society. We help by providing opportunities and access to resources needed to launch and sustain a livelihood. |
Special Projects
In addition to this the foundation strives to provide assistance and support in the event of natural disasters. On December 26, 2004, the state of Tamil Nadu woke up to nature’s fury unleashed on mankind. Our greatest challenge has been to reach out to the Tsunami affected people of Tamil Nadu. Pudyakalpakam, a village 15 kms from Mahabalipuram, and 40 kms from Chennai was selected as it was one of the worst affected. This fishing village lost its only source of livelihood and the affected individuals needed support to rebuild their lives. Food for Hungry volunteers in Hyderabad and Chennai worked towards this initiative and the Foundation received support and help from corporates like Eveready. Their rehabilitation was our main aim. Our priority initially was to repair boats so that they could go back to fishing. The inclusion of Women folk in income generation activities has been one of our priorities and also providing alternative sources of livelihood for these displaced victims.

Relief work was also carried out during other natural calamities. Food to hundreds of families displaced during floods in West Bengal and Orissa.
Currently, our focus is on The Zero Hunger Act under which we aim to bring about an effective legislation, that would help eradicate hunger in India by persuading the country's policymakers for an effective redressal of the problem of hunger through result-oriented approaches and also by putting pressure on the Government to implement the right to adequate food as recognized in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966). A lot of campaigns, marches and workshops have been conducted to spread awareness on the issue. Many groups, volunteers, organizations have come forward to associate with us to create pressure in favour of the proposed Act. A lot of organizations have been convinced to shift focus from highlighting their "problem of hunger" to lobbying for the "Zero Hunger Act", which will provide the solutions to their problems. |
